This week is #CervicalCancerPreventionWeek, and so this afternoon, I had a very interesting and informative meeting with members of staff from Royal Derby Hospital (UHDB) responsible for Cervical Screenings and Smear Tests, to help prevent cervical cancer.
I am very pleased to hear that after an initial drop at the start of the first lockdown, the number of women going for a smear test when invited has mainly returned to expected figures, but there are difficulties reaching the desired number of attendees amongst certain groups, who may be less willing or less able to attend a smear test.
Over the course of the year, I will look to work with the team to help reach out to these groups, as it is vitally important that every woman takes steps to prevent cervical cancer.
