A CHRISTMAS card designed by a talented city school pupil has received praised from Prime Minister Rishi Sunak who has promised to position it on the mantlepiece of 10 Downing Street.
Derby North MP Amanda Solloway invited children living in her constituency to get creative and design her official 2022 Christmas card.
The winning design was produced by six-year-old Nira Guven-Kaya who attends Bishop Lonsdale Church of England Primary School and Nursery, in St Alban’s Road.
Her festive creation, featuring a Christmas tree, has been sent to local businesses, fellow MPs and the Prime Minister.
Amanda said: “I would like to thank Nira for such a brilliant Christmas card – I absolutely love it and her charming design is really eye-catching.
“I was very proud to show the Prime Minister Nira’s card and he was impressed with her artistic skills, so she should feel very proud of herself.
“We received many festive entries, and it was extremely hard to pick an overall winner, so thank you to everyone who made the effort to spread some Christmas joy – it was greatly appreciated.”
Nira’s name has been printed on the Christmas card, which also features a design produced by Amanda’s granddaughter.
Head of school Sarah Brownhall said: “We are absolutely delighted for Nira, she is too young to realise what an achievement this is, but hopefully one day she will realise the significance.
“A number of children at the school submitted drawings and I think seeing Christmas through a child’s eyes is really important for all of us.”
