Alstom have now completed their acquisition of Bombardier Transportation, making them the second largest rail manufacturer in the world.
I appreciate that with the completion of the takeover deal by Alstom of Bombardier Transportation, some may be anxious over the future of the Litchurch Lane site.
On the announcement of the deal last year, assurances were received by the Unite union over the factory’s future and I understand from Bombardier that the decision will have no current impact on the factory.
With the takeover, the site will be Alstom’s only facility of this sort in the UK and it follows the news this week of a £1.7 billion investment in the UK operations to manufacture monorail trains for export to Egypt.
These will be part of a large-scale sustainable transportation system and it offers much promise for the Litchurch Lane site going forward as a manufacturing centre.
