£10 million of additional grant funding to enhance Derby’s flood alleviation programme, build new homes and bring further job opportunities.
The Environment Agency has set out an additional £10 million in grant funding as part of the Flood Defence Grant in Aid (FDGiA) for the ‘Our City Our River’ project. Cabinet Members at Derby City Council are set to approve the additional grant funding this month and the funding will go a long way to delivering Package 2 of the OCOR project.
Package 2 will bring fantastic new developments to the east side of the river Derwent and will work in tandem with Project Munio to create a new innovative and multifaceted area for the city, Derby Riverside. The developments will see new defences against extreme flooding including a flood defence barrier and a new Riverside Park, with the creation of more homes and commercial space for 1,000 new jobs.
The additional funding will boost our ability to prevent flooding in a key part of the city and will help us build key foundations to support Derby’s economic recovery.
It is great to see this additional funding coming to Derby and the potential of the new projects and I am keeping a close eye on how things develop.
