As I’m sure you are aware, the former Prime Minister Liz Truss announced her resignation on 20 October. She continued in her role as Prime Minister until the Conservative Party had concluded the process of selecting a new leader on 24 October.
Following his victory in the party's leadership election, Rishi Sunak has now been elected as the Conservative party leader and on 25 October, he met King Charles III, where he was asked to form a government as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
I am in full support of the new prime minister Rishi Sunak, and I have faith in his ability to address any challenges that the United Kingdom may face and deliver on key manifesto pledges. I am also excited that the Conservatives have chosen to elect the first British-Asian Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. It is truly a historic moment in our nation’s proud history. Now is the time for unity, and I hope that the election of Rishi Sunak will allow the UK government to focus on tackling key issues both home and abroad.
The new Prime Minister has already been hard at work appointing a new cabinet, meeting with key world leaders, and reaffirming the treasury’s commitment to issuing an Autumn statement accompanied by an OBR forecast. I look forward to seeing what he will be able to achieve over the coming months.
