Thank you for contacting me about pay for Environment Agency staff.
My ministerial colleagues and I recognise the importance of Environment Agency (EA) staff to the EA's vital work in protecting and improving water, land and biodiversity, as well as regulating major industry and waste, and also working with businesses and people to address the risks of flooding and coastal erosion.
I am aware that the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs works closely with the EA, through the provision of corporate services, including HR, to support it in developing a pay offer for its staff while ensuring that it meets the requirements of the Government’s pay guidance.
The EA is covered by the annually published Civil Service Pay Remit Guidance, which sets out headline ranges for average pay awards. As a non-departmental public body, the EA conducts its own consultation and negotiations on such matters and has been actively engaging with unions on the issue of pay. I would like to assure you that is an issue I will continue to follow closely.
Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.
