Thank you for contacting me about Dominic Raab, MP for Esher and Walton.
Integrity, professionalism and accountability are the core values of this government and the Prime Minister has said before that people in public life should treat others with consideration and respect.
That is why when formal complaints regarding the conduct of Mr Raab were submitted last year, the Prime Minister asked for the facts to be established by the experienced barrister, Adam Tolley KC. Mr Raab cooperated fully with that independent investigation, and undertook to resign should the report uphold any of the allegations.
Following the submission of Adam Tolley KC's report, Mr Raab kept his word. The Prime Minister carefully considered the findings and accepted Mr Raab’s resignation.
Mr Raab's resignation should not detract from his record of delivery in Government. He has put victims at the heart of our criminal justice system through the landmark Victims and Prisoners Bill, played a key role in the response to the undermining of human rights and democracy in Hong Kong, and provided leadership when the former Prime Minister was hospitalised during the Covid crisis.
It is right that these matters were investigated fully and independently, and the Government has said it will learn from this how to better handle such matters in future. This will not diminish the high standards Ministers can expect of civil servants, as we deliver on our joint ambition to serve the British people.
Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.
