Free speech within the law, and the legitimate expression of differing views, is an important British liberty. The Treasury is running a call for evidence to assess whether the current framework strikes the right balance between the rights of a bank customer to express themselves freely and the right of the bank to manage commercial risk. This will report back soon.
Anyone who feels they have been treated unfairly by a decision taken to close their bank account and has not had their complaint dealt with satisfactorily by the bank in question can file a complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
