Thank you for contacting me about the removal of artwork from an asylum reception centre.
I can assure you that the Home Office provides for high-quality facilities for families upon immediate arrival in the UK whilst temporary accommodation is found. The Government continues to try and move individuals into appropriate accommodation as soon as possible whilst their asylum claims are processed.
The Illegal Migration Bill seeks to reduce the number of unaccompanied minors coming to the country, precisely because the Government wants to protect them and ensure that they are not victims of people smugglers and human traffickers. The UK has an incredibly strong record of helping those in genuine need. Since 2015 we have taken over half a million people through our country-specific and global humanitarian routes which represents one of the most generous offerings in our recent history. These routes bypass the people smugglers to reach those most in need in places of conflict and instability.
Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.
