Thank you for contacting me about the article Jeremy Clarkson wrote in The Sun newspaper.
I appreciate you taking the time to share your disappointment at the article and the language used by Mr Clarkson. To echo the comments made by the Prime Minister, language matters, particularly for those in the public eye with far-reaching audiences.
While I note Mr Clarkson has commented that he was 'horrified to have caused so much hurt' and that he will 'be more careful in future', if you would like to complain about the article, and I note that several thousand already have, you can fill in an online form from the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) website here: https://www.ipso.co.uk/complain/.
I note that an IPSO spokesperson has commented on the complaints saying: 'We will follow our usual processes to examine the complaints we have received. This will take longer than usual because of the volume of complaints.' I will follow developments closely.
In the meantime, I understand The Sun released the following statement:
"Columnists’ opinions are their own, but as a publisher, we realise that with free expression comes responsibility. We at the Sun regret the publication of this article and we are sincerely sorry. The article has been removed from our website and archives."
Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.
